“The Committee” visit in October 2008 “The Committee” re-convened for a further visit to lake Serene commencing on 5th October. Apologies for absence were received from Andy (plod) and Lawrence (wire wool). Co-opted to the committee in their absence was Les (the frightening). Once again we left Dover in horrendous conditions with torrential rain and gale force winds. A very bumpy ferry crossing ensued as we all tried to hang on to our breakfast. Mave was riding shot gun and keeping order. Upon arrival Pete (the worzel) was gainfully employed during the first few days in building a chimney stack to accommodate J & M’s new log burner, ably assisted by the chairman (master pointer). The week was again punctuated by endless humour and leg pulling. Mave once more provided an exceptional menu and gratuitous ale and vino collapso was consumed. Ah yes, I nearly forgot the fishing; a great week was had by all, everyone catching a 30lb+ . “The frightening” had a 40lb Common and “the old boy” a 41lb Mirror. A total of 29 fish were caught and all were in excellent condition. The group worked hard for their fish but were all rewarded. There were a few misdemeanors to report. The rescue boat was in evidence early on when the “chairmans” first cast found the trees, this was followed by “the worzel” who appeared to find every snag and bush in casting range and “the frightening” did not remain unscathed as he followed suit in embracing the trees. However the most heinous act was was the poaching of a fish by “the old boy” on “the chairmans” rod whilst the afformentioned was indisposed in the little room – a most distasteful affair!! The next meeting of “The Committee” is scheduled for May 2009 – watch this space. Oct 2008
